MLK Celebration

This morning I had the opportunity to hear Morris Dees speak at my school in honor of Martin Luther King, Jr. This guys is pretty amazing. He is known for his dedication to suing hate groups and discrimination controversial cases. Because of his line of work he has become a target for criticism for many of these organizations, receiving death threats and strong accusations against him. There are currently over 30 people in jail in connection with plots to kill Des or blow up his Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC). All in all a great honor to hear him speak and he was an amazing speaker. He talks about all hate crimes, not just those involving race, but also religion and sexual orientation. He also talked a lot about the Bible - which I found interesting (I need to do some more research on the prophet Amos now). And also compared the 40 years since MLK, Jr's death to that of the 40 years the Israelites spent in the desert waiting to cross into the Promise Land.
